Community involvement is very important to Yellow Door Energy. With Actis’ financial support, we embarked on our first community engagement initiative: Project Daw (“Light” in Arabic).
The project takes place in Mafraq, Jordan and encompasses 2 phases: Phase 1 is to train 20 underprivileged youths on solar PV (installing and cleaning); Phase 2 is to provide a community centre with a 20 kWp solar system, free of charge. The trainees from Phase 1 will install the solar plant, as part of their practicum.
The project was funded by Actis and Yellow Door Energy, and additional stakeholders are EDAMA (a non-profit that promotes sustainability) and an accredited solar PV training center in Jordan. Project Daw addresses the challenge of youth unemployment in Jordan. The expectation is that the trainees will be able to find jobs in the solar industry, either with YDE directly or through our network of contractors.
